Most law schools grant the J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree and are nationally accredited by the ABA (American Bar Association). In addition, some state legislatures or bar examiners, such as the Alabama State Bar and the State Bar of California, maintain a separate accreditation system which is open to non-ABA accredited schools. The graduates from those law schools are eligible to take bar exam within its state.
